To: Cpl Jason Morrow India Co. 3/5 3rd Plt Wpns Attch
I remember when you were just a new guy back in '03. I had a little salt and you were willing to learn. I remember when we came home on tour #1 it was Angels games at the Big 'A', BBQ's at Onofre Beach and many long drunk nights at the Reef and Big Helyns. I remember tour #2 and it was all laughs at TCP 1 in the bunkers. Those rpgs and mortars never did get us but I can only imagine the looks on our faces when they were close and often were. I remember on assault day of Phantom Fury sitting in the back of the tracks staring at each other scared shitless. You were my machine gunner then and you never made me doubt you. We cleared the countless endless houses and streets. For eight weeks we saw our brothers fall, we killed and we saw the terrible side of war. All I ever had to say was, "Guns up" and within seconds that barrel was hot and rounds were down range.
Do you remember those guys you caught out in the open? Poor bastards never had a chance with you on the gun. What a laugh, Ha Ha. War is hell and no regrets. I remember those days well. It was only yesterday in my mind and when we came home it was Angels, beer and some surf and then we left again for round #3 and we were back again together and we were all good. Once again we got almost killed it seemed too many times and all we could do was laugh about it. Let the good times roll. I remember from Adiwaniya to the textile factory, from Baharia to the slums of Fallujah, from Fallujah to Salaweia, from Salaweia to the Mek, from the Mek back to the Al Anbar Province for our final time. From Camp Smitty to Ferris town and Amiriya proper and when it was time to go for me I was so short I needed a step ladder to get out of my bivy sack in the morning. We laughed, we cried, we shivered together on those cold nights in Fallujah and we damned the heat together and when it was time for me to go you carried my bags to the pave low and saw me off. You promised me you were going to be home soon and I believed you. But you never came home.
On this day July the 4th your eternal resting place draped with the standard we fought for came back home on July the 7th, 2006. Over 700 friends and family attended your service. You were so loved. I remember you on this day that we are all celebrating. We laughed we cried and he who sheds his blood with me today shall be my brother tomorrow. I will be sitting at the table that we sat at so many nights at the Fisherman’s Bar today and I will not forget you. “Guns Up” “Get Some”
SEMPER FIDELIS MY FELLOW WARRIOR, MY BROTHER, AND MY FRIEND. YOU ARE NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN.
Sincerely,
Corporal India Co. 3/5 3rd Platoon
